Overview
- Beta testing is starting soon
- Final production hardware is complete
- Major firmware and software upgrades are now finished
Hello everyone!
Welcome to another update article! Since the last post, we have made tremendous progress towards making Glyf real. This article will give some insight into what we have been up to in the last few months and share our next steps. To kick off this post, here is the launch video we made for Glyf!

Artifact @ Founders, Inc.
In January, we had the amazing opportunity to work from Founders Inc’s campus in San Francisco for the last month and a half. It gave us the space to focus entirely on development and building the best possible version of Glyf. Being surrounded by other like-minded founders, all working to create something meaningful, was both motivating and inspiring. This opportunity allowed us to complete all of the core features for Glyf just in time for beta testing, which will start over the next few weeks.

Hardware Updates
Since the last update, we’ve developed a new PCB and physical enclosure for Glyf. We’ve moved away from using a generic MCU board and instead adopted an nRF53 series module, which gives us better performance in a much more practical form factor. Its smaller size allows us to integrate everything directly onto the PCB, resulting in a more compact and refined design.
We’ve also received our final screens, now featuring a tempered glass layer over the display for a more polished and durable finish.
In addition, the case is now machined from cnc aerospace grade aluminum, giving Glyf a much more premium look and feel.
These will be the final version we use for production. Here is what Glyf looks like now:

Firmware Updates
The last update on the firmware showed a very bare-bones version of what our display would look like. We have made huge advancements in this.
Instead of hard-coded monochrome icons, we now have fully user customizable and uploadable icons. All it takes is for a user to upload an icon in our software and then choose a key they want to use that icon for. Here is a video example:

Another improvement is that we have fully user configurable macros. In previous versions, all macros were hardcoded into the firmware. Now, all a user has to do is record any action with their keyboard, save it, and then replay it with the click of a button. Here is what that looks like:

Previous development versions of Glyf didn’t have any user customizable options for encoders, either. All encoder rotation behaviors were all hard-coded, but now the rotation can be modified like any other key using our software.
One of the features that is required for beta testing is remote firmware updates. Because I develop on my own, I can program the boards with a physical programmer myself, but beta testers will require firmware updates as we fix bugs and add features. We added a simple interface in our software to allow for firmware upgrades, which lets you always have the newest features available.
All of these firmware features are fully integrated into our companion software, allowing anyone to configure Glyf with ease. We still have work to do to refine the look of the software and get the user experience dialed in, but all of this is a huge amount of progress compared to where we were before going to Founders Inc.
Beta testing soon!
Now that all the main features for Glyf are completed, we can start beta testing. This will help us refine Glyf’s features and iron out any bugs before the official launch. If you are interested here is the link to the application: https://forms.gle/UCMDKHLhcwEUwXY6A
